We dropped Sweetheart off with Marquis's parents around 5:45 a.m. on the 27th and then got to the hospital around 6:00. I got checked in, hooked up to the IV, talked to the various doctors/anesthesiologist/nurses/etc. that would be participating, and then walked down the hall to the operating room. They numbed me up really well and laid me down, and then I heard a scary word. The resident said, "Incision," and I think I must have made a face because Marquis asked me if I was okay. I was fine, I just really didn't want to know what they were doing down there! A little while later I heard a beautiful cry. Sweetheart never cried on the OR because of her collapsed lung and all the trouble she was having breathing, so to hear Princess cry was just wonderful. Marquis went over and got to watch them pick on the baby while the doctors put me all back together again. I thought it was funny that the doctors kept talking about how amazing my ab muscles are, and asked me what exercise routine I had been doing. Someday if I loose the layer of jello belly over the top of those amazing ab muscles, maybe someone besides the doctor will think my abs are amazing! The baby was done before I was, so Marquis brought her over by me so I could see her. Once I was done, they put her on the bed beside me and wheeled us to the recovery room. It was so nice to get to be with her the whole time! With Sweetheart, she was whisked to the NICU so fast, and I wasn't doing so well, so I didn't get to see her until about 12 hours later. This time Princess barely left my side, and it was so wonderful! We stayed in the recovery room for about an hour, and then went upstairs to the room we were in the rest of the hospital stay.
Here is her first picture. Please ignore the gore in the background, haha!
She has a good, healthy cry. She doesn't use it much, but when she does, watch out!
Here we are just about to be wheeled to the recovery room. Yes, I look half drugged, but in my defense, I was! Plus the oxygen thingy didn't want to stay on straight. Nice! Thankfully you aren't supposed to look glamorous just after having a baby surgically removed from your abdomen.
They gave her her first bath right in our room. I think it's wonderful how much of that stuff happens right in the room these days, I felt like I didn't have to miss a moment.
Sweetheart was the very first visitor. Marquis picked her up not long after we got to our permanent room so she could meet her new sister. We had been telling her that Princess would be coming soon, but I think she thought Princess would be more like a doll. It seemed to scare her when Princess would move. She is finally over that now and loves on her sister all the time, but it took a few days. This video is from the first time she held Princess , not long after she got there that day. In case you can't understand what she is saying, she says, "I can't want this," a few times. Cracks me up!
