Princess and the Invisible Avocado

No pictures today, just a story.

I've mentioned that Sweetheart has an amazing imagination. I love to just watch her and see what she comes up with each day. Yesterday we were playing in our toy room, and Sweetheart grabbed a spoon and a bowl from her toy kitchen and started mixing. "I'm making avocado for Princess," she told me. She then took the mushed up, invisible avocado over to where Princess was sitting in the walker. Sweetheart carefully scooped some of the pretend avocado into her spoon and said, "Say ahh!" Princess obligingly opened her mouth. Sweetheart put in the spoon, and Princess gummed it, her face growing more and more confused. Sweetheart scooped another spoonful of avocado and put it in Princess's mouth. It didn't take long for Princess to start getting upset. What kind of cruel joke was this, anyway? Where was the avocado she was being promised? And so she began to scream and cry between bites.

A good, nice mom would probably have intervened at this point, but this mom just watched and quietly laughed, trying to figure out how to get my camera and get this on video before the game was over. Just as I was about to get up and try to find it, Sweetheart burst into frustrated tears and came running over into my arms. I asked her what was wrong, and she looked up at me with sad eyes and sobbed, "Princess doesn't want any of my avocado!"
