Sweetheart's One Liners

For breakfast one morning Sweetheart asked for a piece of bread. I asked her, "Do you want it toasted, or just buttered?" She said, "Just toaster it!"

Sweetheart has a flair for the dramatic. The other day when she didn't like something about her lunch, she ran crying to her room. A few minutes later I went in to check on her. She was lying on her bed and said, "Sorry mommy, I just need some alone time."

She was drinking a cup of milk, and when she finished gulping it down she said, "Ahh, that will make me so healthy!"

Sweetheart: "Mom, I need my Epi-Pen."
Me:  (Instant full attention, heart pounding, mind racing, trying to think of where she would have gotten anywhere near a peanut.) "What do you need the Epi-Pen for?"
Sweetheart: "I need it to fix my dress."
Epi-Pen versus safety pin? Kind of close. Except not at all.

In the last installment of Sweetheart's One Liners I told about when she brought her imaginary friends to church with us. Well, this past Sunday they came with us again. At one point Sweetheart needed to use the bathroom, but she insisted that her friend use the potty first. She said, "woohoo!" when the imaginary friend was done and helped her wipe her bum, and then Sweetheart would finally take her own turn. Apparently another one of those sneaky imaginary friends needed to go too, because as we were washing our hands and another little girl went into the stall we had just been using, Sweetheart got very upset. "My friend is in there! She can't go pee, I need my friend!" I tried to explain to her that other people needed to use the bathroom, too, but that didn't help. I tried telling her that the friend was done and pretended to help wash the friend's hands, but Sweetheart just kept anxiously staring at the stall. Then suddenly her worried little face got happy and she said, "Oh, there you are!"  She grabbed an imaginary hand and off she went, as happy as could be.

We sold our broken car, and the guy came by to pay and then asked to come back later with a truck to tow it away. When he left, Sweetheart was asking questions about what just happened and I was answering them. She apparently was confused still, because she asked me, "And then the man will bring back tape and fix our car for us?" If only a little tape could have fixed our poor car!
