We save money by cooking all of our dinners from scratch on one Saturday a month, then freezing them to keep them good throughout the month. Cuts WAY down on grocery trips, keeps us eating healthy, saves times and LOTS of money, and also cuts the amount of dishes to wash by 2/3rds.
It's not the lifestyle for everyone, but it has changed our health and our budget and how we spend our time for the better. :)
Just found your blog and totally want to dish about a bunch of things you write about!

Hooray for fewer dishes! We have done some freezer meals, and I quite often will make double or triple batches of dinner and freeze the rest for another day. Maybe someday I will be brave enough to do a whole month at one time!
I'm glad you found me!
When making soup freeze the extra in freezer safe jelly jars , then you have lunch ready for another day ! Btw.. peaches will be ready in a week or so. :-)
Num, I love peaches!!!
Great post...lots of wonderful information. I recently have changed the way my family eats...I agree you can do it on a reasonable budget! Look forward to following your blog.
Great post! Very helpful. If you get time, check out the post I recently wrote on saving money in the grocery store. It's crazy how much we DON'T NEED to spend. :)

it's so funny to me when people complain about the cost of eating healthy. it's like "sure, you can't afford it but you CAN afford a vehicle, a cell phone, cable tv, dinners out, alcohol, new clothes every week/month/etc...".. yeah right.
it's all about priorities. and in a culture of cheap food, it's very difficult to get people to realize something very simple: you may spend less for that mass produced meat or dairy or vegetable in the short, but what that's going to do to your and your family's health and the environment in the long run, is much more expensive.
to eat for cheaper i eat locally and in season. together - not separately. by attending farmer's markets, using a CSA provider, even growing some of our own food, and eating less meat, we eat much healthier and fuller than we used to. and on less dollars. yes, it takes more effort, but there's so much community around these kinds of food ways - so much going on - it's so worth it. a day at the farmer's market is as good as any other for sure. and of course, because the food is local, organic, small produced, and in season - it's way loaded with nutrients, proteins, flavor, etc.. so you need less than you do if it's mass produced, flown around the world and lost everything that's good in it.
wow - i'm ranting. i'll stop. good post. haha.
