A Birthday Experience

It was so hard to choose what would be a good birthday experience to give Princess for her birthday present, but I think we found a winner. We decided there weren't many better ways to celebrate the life of a fiery redhead than to go see a movie about another fiery redhead, so we ordered our tickets to go see Brave.

Apparently it's been a really long time since we went to see a movie. I know that we saw Tangled in the theater, but Princess was a teeny baby at the time and slept through it. Sweetheart was young enough that she must not have remembered, because she was thoroughly confused about where we were going and we had the following conversation in the car:

Sweetheart - "Mom, where are we going to get the movie?"

Me - "We aren't going to get a movie, we are going to a place to watch a movie because they have a really big, nice screen."

Sweetheart - "Our TV at home has a big screen." (Said while spreading her arms out wide, in a tone that means, "This sounds kind of stupid to go somewhere else to watch a movie when we could do it at home.")

Me - "Just you wait honey, this screen is even bigger."

She still seemed pretty confused, though, and that confusion was only made worse when we stopped at the store to grab some candy. We don't eat a lot of candy, so being taken to the store just for the candy and then being allowed to choose whatever kind they wanted? Yeah, weirdness.

But awesome weirdness!

We were a little early for the movie so we let the girls play in the arcade for a bit. The awesome thing about the arcade at their ages is that it is super fun even without putting any money in the machines! Those demos are awesome, and the girls are much better drivers this way.

Princess really was having fun, that sad  face is because I made her look away from the screen for a sec for a picture. "Can't you see I'm busy here, mom? These cars don't drive themselves, you know!"

When we first got into the theater I was a little worried that maybe a movie at 2 years old wasn't the best choice. Princess was climbing all over and didn't want to sit. She thought the popcorn was pretty awesome, though.

Sweetheart decided that we were right, the screen there really was bigger and better than our TV at home, and she said so very loudly several times.

And then the lights went down and the movie started. We didn't hear a peep from either girl the rest of the movie, they were just so enthralled. Princess was even more into it than Sweetheart was, she barely stopped watching log enough to grab any popcorn or eat any candy. You hear that? She ignored candy! For this girl that's pretty huge, and it means that we really did make the right choice in going to the movie for her birthday experience. Such a fun day!

In fact, Princess decided that this whole birthday business is pretty much the best thing ever, and I have more birthday pictures coming soon to show you why!
