I know that I said that I wasn't going to blog this week with the big move and all that, but today is my Sweetheart's birthday, and I just couldn't let the day go by without a birthday post to celebrate! Here are ten things that I love about Sweetheart.
1. She totally fits her name. Her real name isn't Sweetheart. I know, shocker, right? But her real name is actually a word in another language that means sweetheart. And wow, does her name ever fit! She is kind to everyone, and even when she is irritating her baby sister, it is usually because she is giving too many hugs and kisses and smothering with love.
2. She knows she is my miracle baby, and she tells me about it all the time. She also tells me that Princess is my miracle baby, and that CG is, and that I am my mom's miracle baby, and so on, and so on. So I don't think she quite understands just yet, but by the time she does understand, it will be engraved in her brain.
3. She also knows she is beautiful. I have also tried to engrave this in her brain, and only recently after much reminding has she finally learned to say, "Thank you," after I tell her how beautiful she is instead of, "I know." Beautiful, and humble.
4. She is the best little helper, and she is now finally old enough that her "help" actually does help, probably at least half of the time! Sometimes when she is "helping" by mothering her little sister it doesn't turn out the best, but that girl can load the dishwasher, dry the dishes, clear the and set the table, and many, many other things that really actually do help me out. It is so fun to see her learn to do these things and be so excited about it!
5. She has become so interested in food, my own little foodie. She will now eat anything we put in front of her, and will tell us over and over how delicious it is. She will even get very detailed, explaining how the lettuce is yummy with the salad dressing, but she likes the meat best. Just yesterday at lunch she told me, "Food is kind of yummy, I love it!" Agreed, Sweetheart, agreed. She also has become very interested in cooking and loves to come and help me make dinner. We haven't worked on knife skills yet (probably not for a few years!), but she is getting good at measuring and pouring, and just the other day she even took a whisk and beat some eggs for me, which I found funny considering her egg allergy (which fortunately is not so bad that this was dangerous for her at all).
6. Wow, does this girl ever love her big sister! I think it is nothing short of a miracle, a real, honest, straight from heaven miracle, that Sweetheart and CG get along so well, despite CG living two states away. It's so fun to see the two of them playing and acting as if they are just never apart.
7. She also loves her baby sister so, so very much. Sometimes a little too much, like with all the smothering that I mentioned. But she is so good to help Princess, to grab diapers for me, to share toys (most of the time) and to make sure that if Sweetheart gets a snack or a drink or a crayon or whatever, that Princess has one too. They have turned into the cutest little best friends.
8. Have I ever mentioned this girl's imagination? Oh, like a million times? Well, here's one more mention. Do you remember the finger people? In case you don't, her two favorite toys are (still) her fingers. The index fingers are the heads of her finger people, her thumbs and middle fingers are the arms, and the ring and little fingers are the legs. One is a boy and one is a girl, and she has separate little voices that she does for each one. She has dressed them in barbie clothes, and the girl quite often becomes a mermaid with the help of a washcloth for a fin in the bathtub. Since they are apparently not my kids, they call me Em instead of mom. Sometimes it is a lot easier to get things done if I just talk to the fingers directly and ask them to please help Sweetheart to do whatever needs doing.
9. She is the best little artist. She loves to draw, color, paint, cut, and on and on. She also sometimes has an artist's temperament to go with it, getting a little grumpy when a creation isn't quite turning out as well as she would like.
10. She is so very animated and enthusiastic about everything. Just now as I was typing this she came over wanting to discuss frosting options for her birthday cake. It turns out that she doesn't want the white kind, she wants chocolate because chocolate is the bestest ever, and delicious besides. When I told her that chocolate sounded very good to me, she clapped her hands, jumped up and down saying, "Thank you, mom, thank you!" and then tackled me in a hug so big it knocked me over. And this is how she is about everything. It's hard to be in a bad mood when someone around you is so cute and excited about everything!

Sweetheart is a lot like her mother was at that age (and still is in a lot of ways). I should know since I was lucky enough to be Sweethearts mothers mother. Happy birthday to a wonderful five year old!
