Whoa.....

(Bonus points if you said the title of this post in your head in the voice of Keanu Reeves!)

One day you just might wake up and remember, oh yeah, I have this little thing called a blog, and it's been a little while since I have updated that blog. So then you go take a look at that blog and, whoa! It might have been more than an entire month since you have updated that blog. Whoops!

This is just a purely hypothetical story, of course.

I have so much to catch up on! Bear with me because some of it is really old, but since this blog is more than anything else a family history for us and our girls, I want to make sure I get it all in.

One reason for my absence has been sickness. Oh, the sickness! When Sweetheart started Kindergarten this year I knew she would start bringing home lovely sicknesses with her, but I don't think you can ever be ready for that exactly, and we've had our fair share.

These pictures were taken a long, long time ago, during our first round of sickness. Princess got us started by coming down with croup. That night consisted of me being awake watching her breathe, me being awake while Marquis took her outside in the cold air, then me being awake watching her breathe some more. The next morning this is what breakfast looked like:

And I declared it officially a pajama day.

I didn't know what was wrong with Sweetheart at this point, other than she didn't want to move and refused to eat. That night she showed me that it was a stomach flu, and let me tell you, the stomach flu in the middle of the night from the child who sleeps on the top bunk is very, very not fun! We were also up again that night with Princess's croupiness.

That night as Marquis was again sitting out on the front porch with Princess breathing the cold air, they had the following conversation:

Princess: (Cough, bark, cough...  whimper)

Marquis: Does your throat hurt?

Princess: (In a croaky, sad, hoarse voice) Yeah, I don't like those.

Marquis: You don't like what?

Princess: Throats.

Sometimes I don't like throats either, poor Princess! Thankfully both girls got better quickly after this.

Right as we were getting everyone better from that round, Sweetheart woke up on a Friday morning looking like she had been punched in the eye. I couldn't figure out what she would have hurt it on, but whatever happened she also had a teeny bit of goop at the corner of the eye, so I cleaned that up and sent her on to school. Only after she went to school did the possibility of pinkeye hit me.

Why do these things always have to happen on Fridays? Then began the "what do I do now?" scramble. It's even more complicated for us because since we just have one car, so we really have to juggle our doctor's visits and errands carefully. I called Marquis and got him on the way home from work and nabbed the last available appointment with the eye doctor. I then convinced myself that of course, that meant that it wouldn't be pinkeye after all, and that she'd step off the school bus looking just like normal.

And I was wrong! Or right! However, you want to look at it, it was a very good thing I grabbed that last doctor's appointment. When she got off the bus it was obvious that the doctor's appointment was a great idea, and he confirmed that she had pinkeye. I felt a little guilty about sending her to school with pinkeye, but since that's probably where she picked it up anyway, that didn't last too long. We were able to get her on the meds right away and sanitize everything so well that she didn't share with the rest of the family.

The latest round of sickness was a nasty cold, and we each got a turn. My turn was around New Year's Eve, and for some reason this one hit me way harder than anyone else. I was out of sorts for over two weeks, and that just doesn't work for me! I think there should be a law that moms are just never allowed to be sick! I am the only one that ended up going to the doctor for this one, and he diagnosed me with a sinus infection.

So there are my excuses. That and the holidays, and my normally insane daily schedule. You know, all that. Thankfully we are all on the mend now and health has returned to our house. Hooray! There will be much happier (and less gross) blog posts on the way soon!
