We didn't have much time or money for our March Grand Adventure, but each year Marquis and I have some fun St. Patrick's Day traditions that we decided to finally introduce to our girls as our Grand Adventure. You see, back when Marquis and I were dating, we went to the movie theater one night and decided to see a movie we knew nothing about called Waking Ned Devine. And we LOVED it.

Have you seen that movie? If not, drop what you are doing right now and watch it, it is just such good fun! It's on Netflix, so go do it, I'll wait.

You're back? Ok. Now that movie has nothing to do with St. Patrick's Day, other than it is set in Ireland, but that's close enough for us. So every year a few weeks before St. Paddy's Day, Marquis starts corning his own beef (he uses this recipe, but he uses London broil instead of the beef brisket) in preparation for our feast. When it is ready, we enjoy some corned beef and cabbage while watching our show.

This year we decided the girls were old enough to learn to appreciate both the food and the movie, so we started talking it up to them as our Grand Adventure.

That night we dished up our delicious feast, corned beef and cabbage with au gratin potatoes using Irish cheese.

Sweetheart is a fantastic eater, normally eating everything we give her with gusto and enthusiasm. However, this night her reaction was pretty meh, even though the food was absolutely delicious.

Princess pulled her usual dinnertime routine, she cried for five minutes that we would have the audacity to serve her something that wasn't "bread with soft butter and jam in a pile," and then she ate what she was given. Again, a pretty meh reaction.

In years to come I'm sure they will come to appreciate the beautiful deliciousness of corned beef and cabbage!

After dinner, we went downstairs to watch the movie. Earlier in the day I had made some Scottish shortbread cookies (I know, Scottish shortbread isn't Irish. But rumor has it that St. Patrick was born in Scotland, so close enough, right? Plus, they are delicious!).

We took the cookies and some popcorn with us and started the movie. At first the girls were pretty excited and seemed to be enjoying the show...

...but then once the cookies were gone, so were the girls.

So they wandered off and really didn't care about the movie, but Marquis and I enjoyed a delicious meal and a hilarious movie. And far too many cookies (burp).
