Quite a few of my friends lately have been putting a sample of their daily schedule on their blogs, and I am strangely fascinated. I just love hearing the mundane little details of people's lives, and so I decided that I am going to share mine, too. I must warn you, though, I really think I am more boring than most people, this is really long, and I am going to use the word "work" a lot. Icky word, but c'est la vie, right? So here we go, a day in the life of Emily:
5:30 a.m. - Alarm goes off. It had been a crazy night, Princess had been up twice and Sweetheart once, so the snooze button was pushed repeatedly until 5:50 a.m.
5:50 a.m. - Finally decide I better drag my butt out of bed, hop in the shower, get dressed.
6:15 a.m. - Open laptop to get to work. (For anyone who doesn't know, I am fortunate to be a medical transcriptionist, which means I get to work at home and have a nice, flexible schedule, and that I get to love on and take care of my sweet babies and make some income at the same time.)
6:20 a.m. - Restart laptop because it's old and having issues.
6:25 a.m. - Logged back in to computer, start working.
7:15 a.m. - Girls are up a little early, log out of work program, make bed, girls dressed, Sweetheart's hair in a ponytail and teeth brushed.
7:20 a.m. - Bring the now empty trash can in from the curb before the evil dog-walking neighbor can put his baggie of stinky dog poo in it.
7:21 a.m. - Kiss Marquis goodbye as he leaves for work.
7:22 a.m. - Breakfast for me and Sweetheart (avocado on toast with salt and pepper, blackberries and cantaloupe) while I also nurse Princess.
7:35 a.m. - Bring Sweetheart back to the table to finish breakfast.
7:37 a.m. - Bring Sweetheart back to the table to finish breakfast.
7:40 a.m. - Sweetheart has to go potty, but I suspect just as an excuse to get away from breakfast. I nurse Princess in the hallway outside the bathroom while I wait because she thinks she is starving and shouldn't have to have her own breakfast interrupted.
7:45 a.m. - Bring Sweetheart back to the table to finish breakfast, Princess in high chair, smush up avocado for the rest of Princess's breakfast.
7:50 a.m. - Sweetheart has to potty again, I go back and forth to the bathroom about 20 times, feeding Princess bites of avocado between checking to see if bum-wiping services are needed.
7:55 a.m. - Bring Sweetheart back to the table to finish breakfast.
8:00 a.m. - Redo Sweetheart's ponytail because it has already been demolished.
8:15 a.m. - Give up on getting any more food into either girl's belly, grab first Dt. Coke of the day for me. I'm already beat. Move downstairs to toy room/office.
8:30 a.m. - Everyone is finally downstairs with all the things we will need for the next few hours. Log in to work again.
9:20 a.m. - A very grumpy Princess is put down for her morning nap, chicken for dinner is pulled from the freezer and put in a bowl of cold water to defrost, then back to work.
10:25 a.m. - Sweetheart had an accident, stopped work to clean up.
10:30 a.m. - Back to work.
10:55 a.m. - Princess wakes up, get her out of crib and then back to work.
12:00 p.m. - Relocate upstairs for lunch break for everyone; sweet potatoes and milk for Princess, and for me and Sweetheart, leftover enchiladas with chili verde I made from scratch last night. Yum! This hour also included several trips to the bathroom in order to avoid eating lunch by Sweetheart, lots of crawling around done by Princess, me making a few phone calls, changing my mind about what dinner will be, putting the now defrosted chicken in the fridge and putting pork ribs in the crock pot with some sauce.
1:00 p.m. - Sweetheart down for nap, log back in to work, but don't actually get to start working because of more trips to the bathroom, and then taking Sweetheart back to her bed several times.
1:15 p.m. - Princess down for nap, take Sweetheart back to bed again.
1:20 p.m. - Log back in to work, for real this time. Maybe.
1:45 p.m. - After getting sick of the girls screaming at each other for 25 minutes, I finally give in and rock them both and sing a song. Back to work.
2:00 p.m. - Princess is finally asleep.
2:30 p.m. - Sweetheart is still awake, let her get up and notice she is wheezing. During her "nap" time she has pulled out what was left of the ponytail and lost the hair thing. She has also lost her pants and is wearing a dress that is too small as a shirt. I decide I don't care, we won't be seeing anyone anyway. Back to work.
2:40 p.m. - The wheezing is getting worse, start Sweetheart's breathing treatment, then back to work.
2:50 p.m. - Breathing treatment is over, she sounds way better. She brings me a tomato from a box that I'm going to turn into tomato sauce. I was hoping to do it today, but my line count stinks and it looks like I'll be working late instead. I wash the tomato and she eats it like an apple. Back to work.
3:30 p.m. - Princess awake, get her up and then back to work.
4:00 p.m. - Feed Princess, yummy carrots and some milk. Shuck corn for dinner.
4:20 p.m. - Still feeding Princess, but log back in to work anyway.
4:30 p.m. - Marquis is home. He starts the sweet potatoes and corn cooking for dinner.
5:00 p.m. - Log out of work for dinner.
5:30 p.m. - Marquis leaves for school, I log back in to work. (I want to take a minute and explain, because this makes it sound like I'm working for like 12+ hours, but I'm not. How long I work depends on when the work is completed, and when the work is completed depends entirely on how needy my babies are. And today they have both been very, very needy. I'm usually done by around 4:00 p.m., though.)
7:00 p.m. - Sweetheart has another accident, so I clean it up.
7:10 p.m. - Both girls in the tub.
7:30 p.m. - Girls are in jammies with teeth brushed. We read scriptures and have prayers and Sweetheart goes to bed.
7:45 p.m. - I nurse Princess one more time and then put her to bed.
8:05 p.m. - Clean up living room and kitchen.
8:30 p.m. - Marquis gets home.
8:40 p.m. - We start watching the Big Bang Theory.
9:00 p.m. - Friend comes to borrow our crock pots.
9:25 p.m. - Finish watching the Big Bang Theory.
10:00 p.m. - Bedtime!
10:15 p.m. - Princess is awake. I really need to figure out what is up with that girl, because this is the 2nd night in a row, and this doesn't really work when I need to drag my butt out of bed at 5:30 the next morning!!
11:25 p.m. - Princess is finally settled down, and I get to go back to bed for real this time.
There you have it! Long and way more detail than you ever wanted. This turned out to be a weird day, too. I didn't document every little time I had to stop and do something for one of the girls because this was already long and boring enough, but it happened so many times that my work got done so late! It was a good day, though!
