I love CG's face in this picture. She looked really happy about this situation didn't she? This is a picture scanned in from my scrapbook (hence the crappy quality and the awesome border made with my scrapbook scissors), taken 12 years ago today. Wow, that went fast! And he even still seems to like me! Maybe it's because I do things like this:
(Also scanned in from the scrapbook.) If you are a true geek, you will recognize that this is John and John, otherwise known as They Might Be Giants. Marquis is a true geek, and so adores them. A few years after we got married, the local radio station was having a contest where you could win not only tickets to their concert, but also the chance for a private performance with about 20 people or so earlier in the day and a chance to get to meet the band. Being the good wife, I called and called and called, and was so excited when I finally won those tickets. They are really so fun to meet in person, but when you have pictures with these boys you can't just pose normally, they require you to do karate moves or something else equally as fun. Don't we look like a scary group? Wouldn't want to meet us in a dark alley at night.Just to add to the randomness of this post, I'm going to add a totally unrelated story to the end, a story from not very long after we got married. You see, being single is different than being married. I know, my intellect astounds, doesn't it? But once you get married you suddenly have a lot to learn about living with another person, a person who may or may not do things very differently than you. One thing that I found tricky to learn was about how to share a bed with another person. (Get your mind out of the gutter, this is a good, clean, family blog!) When I was single, if I got too hot in the middle of the night, I would climb out from under the covers and just sleep on top of the blankets on the bed. Eventually I would get cold again, but climbing back under the covers seemed like a lot of work at that point, so I would grab the edge of the blanket and roll up in it, burrito-style. I have done this only once since I have been married to Marquis, because that night, when I was wrapped up burrito-style, he woke up and was cold. Being a burrito tends to use a lot of blanket, what can I say? So he decided to reclaim some blanket, and reached over, grabbed the corner and gave it a little tug. Because it had my full weight on it, it didn't come very easily, so he pulled again much harder, unrolling my burrito and rolling me right off the bed and onto the floor. Thankfully we were poor newlyweds who couldn't afford furniture, our bed was a mattress on the floor and so I didn't have far to fall, but still. And did my new husband check to see if I was ok? Was he worried about the fact that he had just flung his young wife onto the floor? Of course not, the boy laughed. He laughed!
I love you, Marquis, I can't wait for the next dozen years!
