We're Trapped!

Not really, but if you look at our house it kind of looks like it. The driveway drama was apparently a bigger deal than I originally thought. I don't know why, but I had the impression they would be digging up just part of the driveway, off to the side of the garage, the part we don't ever use anyway. They did that, but then they came back the next day and did this:

The front gate opened to a giant pit! Actually, it looked pretty  awesome. Thankfully Marquis had the car at work when they did this, because they didn't say anything to us before they did it and if the car would have been in the garage we would have really been stuck.

The part that really makes  me laugh is this, the barricade between the gate and the front steps.

They fixed the pipe and filled in the giant crater, but the rest is going to stay this way for a little while. Apparently the problem was with the driveway and how it let the water get beneath it, which ended up destroying the sewer pipe. The ground where the driveway goes needs to dry out before a new one can be poured, which could take a few weeks.

So how do we get in and out of our house? Really it's not a big deal at all, it looks way worse than it actually is. For now we just walk around the side in front of the neighbor's and go in and out of their gate, but it really does look like we are trapped in our house. Which, of course, might matter more if we ever actually left!

Gee, that was really nice of them to start digging up your driveway without even notifying you! What if your car had been trapped?! Seriously.

I do have to say that in their defense, we knew they were digging up part of the driveway, we just didn't know how much and I just assumed that they would let us know beforehand if they did in front of the garage. They actually could have tried to warn us and I just didn't hear them knock. But still, crazy stuff!
