On Popcorn, Bacon and Birthdays

Today is Marquis's birthday, and so I'm going to tell you a story. One night a week or three ago the girls wanted popcorn for a bedtime snack. Marquis said he would pop them some and he took them upstairs while I stayed down to tidy up a bit. I could hear them playing and laughing in the kitchen, and as I started going up the stairs I heard him say, "Uh, oh, Mommy's coming!" And I smiled.

I could tell from the sound of his voice that he had the boy look on his face. I've mentioned this look before, the one that means that he knows he's doing something he probably shouldn't? I came up the stairs and around the corner and sure enough, there was the look. All three of them were sitting at the table, each with a bowl of popcorn, and the girls were ear to ear grins. Everyone was sitting quietly and trying to look innocent, but the table and floor covered in popcorn gave them away. After I asked what was going on the girls totally tattled on him, telling me that Daddy was showing them tricks and then demonstrated how to throw up some popcorn and catch it in your mouth. So we all sat around catching popcorn in our mouths and missing most of the time (except Marquis, that man's a ninja) and it was one of those incredibly delicious moments that are so simple and yet so incredibly perfect.

Marquis, one of the many things I love about you is how many of those sweet, perfect moments we have, whether it's just cuddling in front of the TV with some popcorn (we really love popcorn, don't we?) or when one of the girls says something hilarious and we exchange knowing glances while trying not to laugh. Happy birthday and I love you!

And now, bacon:

Awww, Jeremy! This is so sweet, thank you! And that mat of bacon was just step one in a recipe called the bacon explosion, which I'm sure Marquis would be happy to make for you whenever you want :)
