The Day That Sweetheart Glowed

Before we could send this sweet girl off to Kindergarten, there were some preparations that had to be made. This poor girl desperately needed a haircut and some new clothes, so a few days before school was to start, Sweetheart and I set off for a little retail therapy, just the two of us.

Our first stop was the salon for a shiny new haircut.

And this is when Sweetheart started to glow. The lady who cut her hair kept comparing her to Rapunzel and telling her how beautiful she looked. Every girl knows how great getting a hair cut can make you feel, and this certainly was the case this time. As I was paying after she was done, she kept flipping her hair back over her shoulders with a gigantic grin on her face, and then said, several times, "Mommy, thank you for getting me this beautiful haircut!" As we left the building she started dancing around the sidewalk, swinging her hair around and smiling bigger than I might have ever seen her smile. She definitely felt like a million bucks.

And what is even better than a new haircut? A new haircut AND new shoes, of course! We stopped at the shoe store next and she excitedly tried on several pairs before we found the perfect new school shoes. She was already loving all this one-on-one time with me and getting all polished up for school, but there was more fun to be had!

Next we stopped to get her the perfect outfit for the first day of school. I'm afraid this little girl just isn't used to clothes shopping at all. We have lots of fabulous people that give us clothes, both new and hand-me-downs, and anything else we need I usually just buy online. The experience of going to an actual store and trying on clothes in a dressing room was just so exciting, and the fact that we came home with sparkly pants and a princess backpack meant that the day just couldn't possibly get any better.

After the best day ever, Sweetheart was ready for anything, especially Kindergarten!
