One Last Bit of Birthdayness

This is it, the final birthday post of 2013. While I'm always relieved to come to the end of birthday season, it's a little sad, too! 

After getting home from our hike, we hung out for a few hours and then had Sweetheart's requested birthday dinner. She wanted pancakes, and I decided that birthday pancakes simply have to have chocolate chips in them! Am I right or what? Of course they do. 

The girls completely agreed with me. 

When I had been talking to Sweetheart about her birthday cake a few days before, she told me that she wanted fruitcake for her birthday. I immediately thought of the horrible fruitcake brick you get at the holidays, the one with the green and red "fruit" inside. Ew! After a few more questions, she said that she wanted chocolate cake with fruit on top, and then finally narrowed it down even more to chocolate cake with strawberry frosting, which to me sounds like a WAY better option than fruitcake. I found a delicious strawberry frosting recipe here, and used the egg-free chocolate cake recipe here.

After the cupcakes we let the girls stay up late and have a "pajama party," which is where they stay up late and watch the movie of their choice. Sweetheart just glowed all day, she couldn't have been happier.

And that's what I call a perfect day.
