It's now November, and I'm still blogging about September, oops! Oh, well, I'll get there when I get there!
(An explanation for our birthday experiences is here, and for our fabulous monthly week-long vacations/Grand Adventures the explanation is here, and our other adventures are here: April, May part 1, May part 2, June, July and August.)
When we asked Sweetheart what she wanted to do for her birthday experience, she said, "Play in the toy room!" I explained to her that she gets to do that every day, and that this should be something special that she doesn't get to do all the time, so she piped up and said, "A picnic in the back yard!" She was pretty excited about the prospect, but we decided to expand on that idea further and go on a full fledged hike and picnic in the mountains. The day before had been on the cold side and stormy, and we were excited to maybe find some fall leaves and a little bit of snow on our adventure. We made some sandwiches and off we went.
Here we are at the head of the trail.
We aren't the best hikers, so this nice, wide, easy path was perfect!
There were lots of fun rocks to climb around on, too!
At the end of the trail is a grotto with a beautiful waterfall, the girls were just amazed.
After playing near the waterfall for a bit, we went back where it was more sunny and not so cool and enjoyed our sandwiches. We found lots of pretty fall leaves, and there was even a skiff of snow on the ground. The girls loved being outside. This was such an easy (and cheap!) birthday experience, but it was exactly what Sweetheart wanted, she was so happy!
We were lucky enough to be able to do Sweetheart's experience right on her actual birthday, so we continued the festivities after we got home. I'll share more in my next post.
