(For more on our monthly Grand Adventures; the explanation and first adventure are here, more adventures here, here, here and here.)
Camping, oh camping. Who invented camping? Some day I'll find out who that was and we will have words. Also, a discussion will be had with whoever made it so kids love it so much. Curse you!
Moving on. So for our July Grand Adventure, we went camping. Again. That's twice this summer for those who are counting, and that's some kind of craziness right there that I was talked into going camping twice in the same summer.
Anyway, this time we went with my side of the family for two whole nights. The spot was actually the most enjoyable place I think I've ever been camping; not too hot, not too cold, private while still being a short drive to stores and hospital, and super close to a lake. (One way to help me enjoy camping more is to put a fishing pole in my hand and leave me alone for awhile. I never catch anything, but I love it!)
The next morning the girls both immediately got to work doing the main job kids have when camping, getting messy! Sweetheart didn't want her picture taken for some reason, but the other half of her face in this picture is completely covered with black charcoal-ness from an awesome stick she found in the fire pit.
Princess, however, chose to begin her messy adventures with food, num!
I must admit, there is something about being in the mountains that makes food taste better. We had whole wheat biscuits and gravy for breakfast with lots of grapes, very yummy!
When your momma is a crazy unprocessed food nut and someone gives you hot chocolate, you have to make sure you get every last teeny little drop (we forgot the stuff to make real hot chocolate, that will be first thing on the list next time!).
Next, we were off to do a little fishing, or as I like to call it, sitting on the shore enjoying the quiet with fishing poles in the water. Someday we will actually catch a fish, but that day wasn't this day.
My cute niece trying her luck.
I think these are pretty much the cutest kids in the world!
We got back and had some sandwiches for lunch, and then Marquis and Princess went to the tent for a nap. This picture cracks me up, it's like Where's Waldo. Can you find Princess napping in this messy tent? She was so cute catching some Zzzzs.
That night it rained, and hard! The funny thing was how much the kids loved it, they were dancing in the rain and having a grand time. The rain didn't stop us from having s'mores, and it let up right as it was time to head to bed.
The second morning we woke up to see a beautiful mist over the lake, it was just lovely!
The girls had so, so much fun on this trip. In fact, the last morning after breakfast, the girls were sitting with my mom while Marquis and took down the tent. At one point Princess realized what we were doing and came running over to us yelling, "You guys!! Put my tent back up RIGHT NOW!!!!" She was mad, but we went home anyway.
And our July Grand Adventure was a total success!
