August's Grand Adventure, and a Birthday Experience

Double whammy! For August, we took our monthly week-long fabulous vacation and wrapped it all up together with Princess's birthday experience (the explanation for our birthday experiences is here, and for our fabulous vacations/Grand Adventures the explanation is here, and our other adventures are here: April, May part 1, May part 2, June and July).

Are you sick of the word birthday on this blog yet? Well it's not ever, that's for sure, so get used to it. Birthday, birthday, birthday!!!!

It took us awhile to figure out what to do for Princess's birthday experience. We had several thoughts but nothing that sounded just right. During this same period of time Princess started talking about the "Spirit Wheel."  What in the world is a spirit wheel? Yeah, we didn't know what she was talking about either, but she just kept going on and on about it. She wanted to ride the Spirit Wheel so bad! Finally one day she rebuilt it from her imagination with blankets and some small chairs, and we were able to figure out that she was talking about the Ferris Wheel that she had seen inside of the Scheel's sporting goods store. We didn't ride it the first time we went, but apparently she wanted to ride it so bad. She was obsessed! It soon became very obvious what we had to do for her birthday experience.

She was so very excited when she found out where we were going, although she still insisted on calling it the Spirit Wheel and wouldn't believe us that it's really called a Ferris Wheel. We bought some cool tokens and semi patiently waited our turn.

Sweetheart was checking out how high that Spirit Wheel goes. It's pretty high up there!

Someone had to stay behind and take pictures for the blog, so I volunteered. I'm good like that. As they went around and around I could see Princess was saying, "Wheee!!" and was just loving it. I was pretty surprised that Sweetheart loved it too, she is usually the more timid of the two little girls.

After a glorious and perfect ride, Princess came off glowing and so excited that she had finally been able to ride the Spirit Wheel like she had been hoping and dreaming since she had first laid eyes on it. After the ride we went to the little cafe they have there in the store and got some lunch.

Crazy food lady rant/tangent. Why does every food place out there think that kids will only eat chicken nuggets, fries or hot dogs, with no veggies in sight? And always with lots of soda on the side? Gross, gross, gross. Yes, that's a bag of chips you see there, but all 4 of us shared it. I ended up ordering an adult size wrap for them to share, which they loved, veggies and all! And neither one complained about simply drinking water. And rants like this is part of why Marquis doesn't like taking me out in public to eat.

Yes, I just ranted about food and feeding kids junk, but now I'm going to tell you that next we wandered over to the fudge counter and bought a whole bunch of fudge. Every birthday celebration should end with a treat, though, don't you think? Mmmmm, fudge.

A grand time was had by all, and Princess still talks about getting to ride the Spirit Wheel. It was an awesome birthday experience, and a wonderful Grand Adventure!
