Halloween just keeps getting more fun as the years pass. Sweetheart really got into it this year, and having her be in school just made it all the more fun. She came home each day with a new, fun Halloween song. Early in October I asked her what she wanted to be for Halloween, and she told me a princess. I decided I had it made, we have 19 princess dresses in our dress up box, along with countless tiaras and other princess gear. This year would be simple!
Two days before Halloween I asked her to go choose which princess dress she wanted, and she looked at me strangely. I repeated my request a couple of times before she finally said, "No Mom, not one of those princesses. I want to be Princess Twilight Sparkle!"
Just in case you aren't completely saturated in My Little Pony like we are at our house, here is what Princess Twilight Sparkle looks like:
That's right, a unicorn. How in the crap was I supposed to do that? I tried to talk her into any other princess, but she was insistent and so cute that I caved. I'll talk more about how I pulled that miracle out of my hat in just a sec.
First, here is Princess Twilight Sparkle at her school parade. Not the greatest pictures, but the best I could get:
And here she is again, with Princess Merida (hooray that Princess went along with a costume we already had!) and the most adorable little witch ever (my niece).
Adding a few more cute cousins:
Ok, so here is my miracle. I had two days to turn my girl into a purple unicorn, no supplies, no car, and no cash. If I was going to do it, I had to do it with what I had on hand. I also worked two jobs both those days, so I had no time. Whatever I was going to do, it had to be quick and simple.
First, I stole a horn from one of our stuffed toy unicorns. (Isn't removing a unicorn's horn supposed to be one of the most evil things ever? Don't worry, I asked first, then removed it carefully, and reattached the horn shortly after Halloween. That has to count for something, right?) I sewed that horn onto a headband, then crocheted some ears and added them on, too.
I took a hoodie that had been given to Sweetheart by a friend that was just the right color. I also found three pairs of the girls' old pants that were the right colors; navy, pink, and purple. I cut them into strips, then using safety pins I pinned bunches of them to the hoodie for a mane, with longer strips for the tail.
On the inside I covered the pins with duct tape so they wouldn't get loose and poke her sweet head. I was up super late one night putting this all together, but I got it done! One thing I love about this is that the hoodie is still very usable, remove the duct tape and pins and you're good to go!
So there is my miracle. It won't win any costume contests, but it made my girl very happy, and that made the late night totally worth it.
