Valentine's Day - In Which I Got a Little Carried Away

I'm not that mom. You know the one, her house is always clean, her kids look like they've just stepped out of a clothing ad and their hair somehow stays perfectly neat for the entire day. This same mom goes all out for holidays. A leprechaun visits each St. Patrick's Day, leading the kids on an elaborate treasure hunt ending in nearly catching the little guy but only being able to snag his bag of chocolate coins. This mom's house has a magical elf show up each December to make sure the kids don't get in any trouble while stirring up plenty of trouble of his own. Every minute of this woman's life looks like Pinterest vomited all over it.

There's nothing at all wrong with this mom, it's just so, so very not me. It's pretty obvious that my kids dress themselves pretty much every day. My kids always have messy hair, no matter how much I mess with it in the morning. There will never be a leprechaun or an elf or a 4th of July zebra show up at our house for crazy antics. Nothing on this blog is particularly pinable. But for some reason this past Valentine's Day, I suddenly turned into that mom for just a few minutes before school.

First, we got Sweetheart dressed in her pink dress and her silver, heart-covered tights.

Then I spent a little extra time and instead of doing Sweetheart's typical boring ponytail, I came up with this creation:

It's not the prettiest, but Sweetheart loved it, and that's what counts.

Where did it come from? The ambition? The time? The minute level of creativity? I have no idea, but I can tell you, there wasn't enough left over for Princess, poor thing. Perhaps if she had school to go to, too, but she didn't need heart hair for just hanging around at home, and we were lucky it got brushed that day.

It did get brushed, I promise! Thankfully she was happy with a cut out paper heart and a rock. And isn't that a good enough Valentine's Day for anyone?
