I'm trying to hurry and get caught up, but this stuff is still from April! Sigh. Oh, well, hang in there and we'll see how quickly I can move through all the latest adventures that we have been having.
Since we moved into our house, poor CG's room has been in desperate need of some love. The carpet was old, old, old, and at one point someone had even dropped an iron on the floor leaving a perfect imprint all the way down to the pad. We had some water issues to fix and didn't want to replace flooring in this room until that was done, so CG has been putting up with a halfway done room and her mattress just on the floor for over a year. It's a good thing she is such a sweetheart and a good sport about these things!
I was going to take before pictures, but we got all gung-ho and had carpet ripped out before I remembered, so this is the only before picture I could find. You can't tell much besides that the mattress is on the floor and that the carpet is just old and icky.
We knew CG was coming for Spring Break and decided that it was high time to give her a nice place to stay when she's here, so we ripped out all that old icky carpet and took it to the dump. In the picture below, you can kind of see the iron mark on the carpet pad.
The walls also desperately needed paint, so before we put in new carpet, we made a plan to paint the room. CG had no opinion whatsoever on the color, especially since she knew we wouldn't do anything super bright. I was trying to find the perfect blue/gray/green color and wasn't finding it anywhere. For some reason I had the feeling that would be a really relaxing color for a bedroom.
Then one night as I was reading in bed, I looked at my walls and realized exactly where I got the idea for that color. I was imaging the color of my own bedroom walls! A few days later as I was making dinner, I saw a huge bucket of paint that had been left in the back of our pantry by the previous owners and we hadn't touched. It had just become part of the scenery, but when I pulled it out to see what color it was, I was so happy to find it was the paint from our room, and the bucket was still half full! And so now CG has the same color on her walls that we do. And we didn't have to pay a dime for it! Perfect!
And I love it! We rented the tools and put the carpet in ourselves, which I'm pretty proud about. We moved all the furniture back in, and I grabbed a new comforter ($30 on No More Rack, woohoo!). The bed also finally got put together so it wasn't just mattresses on the floor.
Her room looks 100% better, and we finished just in time for CG's visit!
