Out of the Mouths of Babes

Princess: "Remember that one day when we were at Grammy's house and we were outside eating popsicles, and a piece of my popsicle fell in the grass and it had grass on it, and Grammy told me to just eat it anyway because grass wouldn't hurt me? Remember that?" Uh, oh Grammy, you're totally busted!

Sweetheart is a fantastic little eater. I have driven the picky right out of that girl, and now she will eat anything and everything, and with gusto. She has been eating onions her whole life, but one night recently she saw me sniffling a little as I cut some and asked me why, so I explained that there is something in onions that can sometimes make you cry. A few nights later she was emphatically refusing to eat her onions, saying that she didn't like them. This was so weird for her that we kept probing, until finally she told us, "I don't want to eat the onions because I don't want to go blind!"

Princess, in an angry, upset voice, "You aren't my favorite right now, but I sure love you!"

Recently we were at a friend's house for dinner. Sweetheart went up to their teenage son and asked, "Have you ever had a hug before?" He replied that he had, and then she smiled and gave him one. He apparently looked like he needed another!

I drive very rarely. I work at home, and when I do need to leave, I prefer to use my own two feet. When we go places as a family, Marquis loves to drive, so I'm very happy to let him. One day I ended up driving with just me and Princess, and she said, "Mom, I sure hope you get driving lessons someday!"

Sweetheart, one day as I was making them clean the toy room, "Mom, at least you are a nice neat freak!"

The power went out one day, and Princess kept saying, "Oh, no, we need to call the authorities!" over and over. She was really concerned and didn't seem to know what to do with herself. She was very relieved when it came back on a few minutes later.
