Sweetheart's Birthday Adventure - Yes, I got talked into camping

These kids, they just keep doing this to me! Blah. When I first asked Sweetheart what she wanted to do for her birthday adventure, without missing a beat she said, "Camping." I groaned inside, but it was still early and I figured she would either forget, or I could talk her into something else.

Nope.

And so we went camping. We actually went a few weeks before her birthday, because if we waited too long then we would be getting into cold weather and possibly even snow. And I have to say that even though camping is slow torture for me, the birthday girl couldn't have been happier, even when I put her to work putting up the tent.

The theme of this camping trip was sandwiches. I didn't have time for much prep work or cleanup, so we just slapped together some SunButter sandwiches for our dinner that night.

After dinner, Sweetheart was running around practicing her "sneaky ninja skills." It was pretty hilarious.

And then my three little pyros made a fire.

Yes three, Marquis counts as one of my little pyros. The ringleader, you could say.

Then, to continue the sandwich theme, we had S'mores for dessert.

As it got dark, the girls grabbed the lantern and had fun adventuring all the way to our tent.

In the morning it was time for another fire so we could have a warm breakfast. The girls had so much fun helping Daddy get it all set up.

Breakfast was more sandwiches, of course! We took frozen waffles (although they weren't frozen anymore after spending a night in the cooler), spread them with homemade jam and cream cheese, then wrapped them in foil and threw them in the fire.

Really this breakfast seemed like a great idea, but it came out kind of meh. We got inpatient and threw it in before there were some good coals, so they ended up a little burned on the outside and still cold in the middle, but it filled our bellies.

After breakfast we went for a little hike. It was a beautiful morning, and we let the girls lead the way. Unfortunately they led us to where some cows had been, oops!

Camping birthday adventure was a big success! That was one happy birthday girl!
