It has now been over six months since we bought our new, cute house. One of the fun things about a new house is discovering all the different things about it as the seasons change. For example:
Having a yard is fun. Our last place had a fantastic back yard, but I am a homebody who works a lot and really doesn't get outside enough. While I really, really, really miss those nice boys showing up to mow the lawn without me having to do anything, being in charge of our own yard maintenance forces us to get outside and enjoy the yard that we now have, which both Sweetheart and I were so excited to discover has loads of lilac bushes!
This magnolia tree is perfect for climbing when you are just a teeny little girl. We are going to have lots and lots of pictures of these girls in this tree, I can already tell!
Our house apparently came with a pet, the perfect kind that you don't have to feed and doesn't leave poop behind that you have to clean up. I would like to introduce you to our pet toad, Lilly. The girls named her Lilly because frogs sit on lilly pads, and toads kind of look like frogs, so close enough, right? We first noticed her in a drainpipe that runs by our sidewalk. We have also seen her (or possibly a different toad or two) in our garden, where she entertained the girls for quite awhile as they chased that poor thing all around.
Moving away from your hometown and then moving back after fifteen years is super weird. It used to be that as I'd go about my day I'd see someone that looked like someone in my past, and I'd think, hey that looks like so and so, and then I'd go on my merry way, because no way was it really that person. Now I get a little embarrassed when I'm walking down the halls of church and I think, wow, that girl looks SO much like my best friend from when I was little, only to realize when she says hi and gives me a hug that that is exactly who it is. (Sorry Heather, it wasn't that I didn't recognize you! And it was so very good to see you, by the way!)
Another weird thing is revisiting places from your past and seeing how much they have changed. In high school I spent two years working in a pizza/sandwich shop. I was there all the time and I was sad when I later heard that it had closed. I never would have imagined that the library would take over a large chunk of that old building, landing the children's book section right in the old pizza shop. Princess and I took a little visit and I walked around wondering how they had gotten out the pizza smell that had seemed so saturated in the walls and remembering the squeaky sounds of the big oven that used to stand right by the pole that you can barely see behind the giraffe's head in this picture. The view out the windows was the same and I could remember exactly where I would park my car every day and the places nearby that I had kissed each of my different boyfriends. (Although maybe I shouldn't mention that part on a blog that my mom reads. Just forget that part, ok mom?)
We are still reeling a little bit and wondering what in the world we are doing away from the city in this teeny town, but we still love our cute little house more an more each day!
