Hawaii, day 5 - North side of Maui

Our fifth day in Maui started with a delicious breakfast cooked by my brother-in-law and eaten out on the lanai. After that we suited up again for another beach. It seemed like we lived in our swimsuits this trip!

According to Marquis, this beach had the best snorkeling out of all the beaches we went to, and he had a great time checking out all the fish.

For me, I really enjoy standing on the beach, letting the water wash over my feet and bury them in the sand.

After we had a good soaking, we were looking for a place to have some lunch. I was starving, and on my phone using Yelp I found a place nearby that sounded interesting called Java and Jazz. I pretty much insisted on this spot because it was so close and I was so hungry. As soon as we walked in I started wondering what I had done bringing my very religious in-laws to this crazy place! First, it looked like an eclectic hoarder had decorated it, and just put anything they found strange on the walls. Ratty haired, old, naked Barbie dolls frolicked in the fountain next to our table. Painted pictures of naked Hawaiians covered the wall across from us. All kinds of other art of half naked ladies was everywhere I looked. Yes, I'm rather prudish in general, but then you put me somewhere like that with my in-laws, somewhere that it was my idea to go to, and I was a little embarrassed. Thankfully they were all super awesome about it and the food was really good.

And at the end of the meal, they gave each of the ladies a gigantic hibiscus to tuck behind our ears.

Next we were off to see a blowhole. As we walked down the path to the blowhole, we saw this sign.

Apparently a few years ago some tourists were hanging out next to the blowhole when a man was sucked in, never to be seen again. Pretty scary stuff! We kept our distance, though, and it was pretty awesome to watch.

On our way home from the blowhole, I let other people search Yelp for a place to eat. We found a little Vietnamese place that is apparently not frequented by many tourists. We got some strange looks because it was obvious we were from out of town and not Vietnamese. I got a green papaya salad with avocado and fresh mint, and it was amazing! This might have been my favorite meal the entire trip. This is one I definitely need to recreate at home because it was so delicious!

Our trip was going so fast! I remember at this point simultaneously wondering where the time was going, and yet still missing my little girls so much and wishing I could touch their sweet faces.
